Does the Mel Gibson film "apocalypto" have subtitles or do they speak a different language without subtitles, leaving the audience to guess at what's going on.

Apocalypto comes with English subtitles. Director Mel Gibson took a bold step by having the entire movie spoken in an ancient Yucatec Maya language.

Perhaps because he is aiming for an audience wary of subtitles, Gibson rarely uses dialogue as a means of exposition. But in this movie, he proved himself to be an able, if not always terribly original, visual storyteller. - MYTimes.com.
