Can smoking cinnamon get you high

Not medical advice: Sources suggest that smoking powdered cinnamon does not get you “high”, but it may produce a relaxed feeling as long as it doesn’t reach the throat. If the smoke reaches the throat it is said to result in an uncomfortable burning sensation.

Medical professionals suggest that sucking on a cinnamon stick may help people stop smoking. Doing this is said to help satisfy the cigarette habit of having something in the mouth.

Recently the “cinnamon challenge” resurfaced with a new generation of teens and is now appearing all over Facebook and YouTube. The challenge requires a person to swallow a tablespoon of ground cinnamon without chasing it with a glass of water. The end result is usually gagging, coughing, choking, burning pain, and sometimes vomiting.

The “cinnamon challenge” is dangerous because it can raise blood sugar levels, burn the throat, and get into the lungs and cause pneumonia.
